Having only been a volunteer at STCC since May this year I’ve already had some unforgettable experiences. I’ve been on two trips to Klein Curaçao, collecting nesting information for the STCC database, and one to Wacawa where we released a rescued turtle back into the ocean after being kept at the Sea Aquarium for treatment.
During these three trips, I’ve met some people who have been working with turtles for many years and they all had so many amazing stories to tell. Some were about great experiences they have had through the years and others were about sadder moments in turtle conservation. One lesson I’ve learned from these stories is that you never know what to expect and should always be prepared for any scenario.
It’s been very nice meeting all these wonderful volunteers who are so motivated and dedicated to research, conserve and educate and I’m looking forward to the next turtle adventure and hope to one day have some stories to tell the next generation of STCC volunteers.
